2011 Stateline Comets Announcements
2011 Comets Football Banquet
Friday December 2nd – 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM
@ Nippersink Country Club - Genoa City, Wi.
The 2011 Comets Football Banquet will be held again at Nippersink Country Club. The cost for attending the banquet will be reduced from the past several seasons, $16 for ages 11 and older, and $10 for ages 10 and under. We will again this season, allow ALL Comet Players who attend in for FREE (no charge). We will need RSVP’s for all players/parents/family, and pre-paid BEFORE Sunday 11/13/11 as we want to make sure our plans exceed your expectations. Coaches will also be making a few follow up calls to those that do not respond, to ensure that we do not accidentally miss someone. We will need all reservations and banquet fee’s collected PRIOR to this event. Please mail in the attached form, or contact a coach and make arrangements to get this information to us ASAP. The cost will increase at the door if the RSVP and payment is not received in the allotted time, as our experience in the past has been that we’ve had to pay additional fees and set-up for late or non-reserved parties during the actual event which makes it very difficult for us to handle on late notice. This night will be fun filled and include dinner, awards, guest speakers, and raffles/prizes.
If anyone has any corporate/personal donations they will be willing to offer for our prize raffle, please contact us at once.
If anyone can offer help on 12/2 to set-up or clean-up, please contact us at once.
On behalf of all the Coaches for the Stateline Comet Football Program,…we thank you for your support in what we feel has already been another absolutely outstanding year.

Greetings Players and Parents
Week 8 of football is now upon us and the weather has been excellent football weather the last few weeks!
Just a few updates for the upcoming days and weeks.
This Thur night 9/29 at 6 PM @ RBCHS the HS will be having their 2011 Homecoming Parade right on the school property. We¡¦ve been invited to participate. Most Comet teams that have agreed to do this will be meeting there shortly before 5 PM, as set-up is 530 PM. Kids can wear jeans and their jerseys. Ray will be pulling a float for the kids to ride upon. Following the parade the Rockets will have their traditional HUGE BON FIRE right at dark in the south endzone. There will also be concession sales this evening also.
Friday night is RBCHS homecoming game vs Marengo. Following the varsity game will be the 5th Quarter at The Shores of Turtle Creek.
Saturday 10/1 three Comet teams will play at Thelen Park. Both BWs and one MW team. One LW team will be in Marengo with our HW team. The other LW team will be @ Bigfoot. The other MW team will be at Lake Geneva.
Sunday teams will play at home against Hampshire on 10/2. Its slated currently for Thelen Park, but there's a remote chance that it could be played at RBCHS. More to follow later.
Next Thursday on 10/6 we will have the FINAL ALL COMET practice of the year, and will have a few special events planned that evening. Please bring your camera and or video camera
Next Saturday is 10/8 and the FIESTA BOWL! All Seven Comet teams are slated to play at home. There is also a possibility that we may end up hosting seven ADDITIONAL games due to another host being unable to host games on this date.. If this is truly the case, we will need to operate at both Thelen and SG Parks simultaneously. We've done this a few times before, but we would like to request in advance all the help we can get on this date. Please speak with your team moms and/or coaches. Some of you to-date have already volunteered beyond your two event requirements and for that we thank you very much for your extra efforts! More to come later.
Next Sunday 10/9 is the final Sunday regular season game for the Sunday teams and they will play at Harvard HS.
Also on 10/9, right here in Spring Grove at Horse Fair Park from NOON until 4 PM, Its a "PAWS FOR CAUSE WALK" fundraiser to help with Breast Cancer. Bring your dog and come support a great and meaningful fundraising event in a walk that¡¦s just under 2 miles on flat terrain. For more information contact Dorothy Vetrovec at (815) 675-2008 or www.pawsforacausewalk.org
Playoffs for Sunday teams (that qualify) begin on Saturday OCT 15th. More to follow as we may possibly host a quarter final game.
The Superbowl will be played on Sunday October 30th right here at SG PARK!!!!! Stay tuned¡K
The 2011 Banquet is currently being reviewed to be held on Friday 11/4.

Greetings Comet Parents/Players!
1. This Saturday has four of the seven Comet Saturday teams playing at home (Thelen Park). Both BW¡¦s, LW1, and MW1 beginning the day at 10:30 AM. LW2 is at Marengo, MW2 is at Hampshire. HW Sat has a BYE this week.
2. Sunday teams will all be at home (Thelen Park) beginning at NOON. This is also Sept 11th, and as in the past, the Comets will hold special events and tributes throughout this day. We will honor all Veterans, active military personnel, Fire/Police Depts, etc. If you know anyone from the area that is in town currently on leave, or any of the other groups mentioned above, please pass along our ¡§open invitation¡¨ for all to be honored at each game of the day. God Bless America and all those who protect us! Let¡¦s make this a great day!
3. Game Parking: When parking at Thelen Park on game day, please consider parking in the NORTH lot and allowing our opponents to park in the general area to free up some extra room. Please also drive slow through the Park.
4. Trash ¡V Please continue to make sure and pick up all trash at our Park and/or our opponents. Thank you!
5. Bees/Hornets: It's that time a year again...please watch your drink containers at the various Parks. Quite often bee¡¦s will fly into open soda containers. We will have general first aid available, but make sure you have anything addtl that you may need in case of specific allergic reactions to bee stings.
6. Practice location: We will be moving to SG Park this upcoming week because of daylight issues late in practice, and/or no lights at Thelen Park. So this will begin for the 9/13 practice date. SG Park is tighter surroundings than Thelen Park so PLEASE USE EXTRA CAUTION AND DRIVE SLOW. If you are leaving the Park after dropping your child off, let them out the right side of the vehicle so they can immediately step on their specific practice field. Please do not allow them to cross in traffic. Also do not Park on the corners coming into the Park, the endzone, or the concession stand grass. Please use Horse Fair Park additional parking if needed and walk on the right side of the road. The BW¡¦s will be practicing on the little BB field. The LW's will be on the big BB field. The MW¡¦s will be on the football field closest to the concession stand, and the HW's on the opposite end.
7. Volunteers :Please remember to try and sign up for at least two/three opportunities as a volunteer very soon! That way you will be guaranteed to receive back your volunteer deposit at seasons end, that you paid at registration. It is easier for us to spread the work out now as we will not be able to use all those that haven¡¦t signed up the final few weeks of the season. Thank You!
8. Pressbox and Concession: Please help restrict the access to the pressbox and concession stand to adults only for the safety of the kids. The concession stand is busy with many hot roasters, and the pressbox is obviously a place that needs quiet and has falling risks.
9. School : School is back in full swing, so please know that it is very important to us also that your child completes their schoolwork every day/week. If they are not, please know that you can talk to your coach and if you have to, leverage practice/games to make sure the homework is getting done, and correctly. Again, please talk to your coach. fº Also, please have them wear their game jerseys every Friday to school if they¡¦d like!
10. COMET NIGHT AT RBCHS : This Friday night the Comets will help cheer our hometown RBCHS Rockets in their HS
2011 Home Opener against Winnebago. The JV game is at 5 PM and the Varsity is immediately afterward.
A. Please have your kid(s) there for the JV game or at least minimally by 630.
B. They must have their Comet jersey on for FREE admission for players and Cheer only.
C. The pressbox will announce sometime immediately following the 3rd qtr of the JV game for the kids to congregate in the North endzone area OUTSIDE the fence on the practice field off the road. Have them seek out their coaches.
D. Cheer will create a tunnel beginning immediately from the NORTH field gate entrance in the order of youngest to oldest cheer groups, with the oldest being at the back of the tunnel furthest from the gate towards the school.
E. Then the Comets will line up doing the same thing,.in order, KBW, LW, MW, HW right behind the oldest cheer group.
F. RB Varsity players will walk thru the tunnel from the HS generally up until the bus area, have their team prayer, then go back into the tunnel, enter the field, go thru their inflatable tunnel, and proceed to the field.
G. Sometime very soon after this, the pressbox will announce the Cheer groups out in age order youngest to oldest, as they are already lined up in that order. After they are done, the same thing will happen for the Comets. BW, LW, MW, HW. Please stay on the track and keep off of the field. When all Cheer and Comets are out there, they will do one quick cheer, and exit the south gate by the concession stand. Parents if you have kids under 12 please meet them at this transfer point.
11. Friday Night 5th Quarter : Every Friday Night ¡§Home¡¨ Rocket Game
Location: The Shores of Turtle Creek
7908 Winn Rd
Spring Grove IL
815.675.0001
Starts: Immediately following all Rocket Varsity games Ends: 1:00 AM. Please plan on attending if you can. If you cannot, we fully understand as many of the kids have games the next day. If you can even stop for a short time, your more than welcome as that¡¦s what Comet/Rocket Football is all about.
All for now, have a safe and wonderful weekend!
GO COMETS! And GO ROCKETS!!
08.05.11
Practices – You’ve done it! Despite the hot weather, and several other obstacles during our 2011 start-up, you’ve made it through three weeks of pre-season practice! Hats off (or helmets) to all of you! The first three weeks of practice are now behind us and our plate is still pretty full with preparation for next weekend’s opener. We’ve seen much progress from all of the teams thus far and it’s exciting to watch all the boys learning and growing as a team together. The practices will continue Monday through Thursday this upcoming week at the same times of 530 -730 PM. Some coaches may have “additional” practices (beyond the normal days) based on each teams specific needs.
Games – Games will begin next weekend and the season opener is slated on August 13th for most teams. The Sunday schedule is already posted and on our website as well as the IYFL website. The three Comet Sunday competitive teams begin at home (Thelen Park) Sunday August 14th against Marengo. The Saturday schedule will be completed Sunday night and posted Monday.
Absent – If your son cannot make a practice, please make sure to contact a coach ASAP so we can make other arrangements. The league requires EVERY player to attend and compete at 12 practices prior to playing in their first game.
Equipment – Equipment was handed out at all of the registrations, and throughout the past three practice weeks. You should have everything you need at this point. If you do not, please see a coach ASAP.
Team Pictures – TOMORROW Saturday August the 6th. This will be in Full Uniforms – Game Pants, Belt, Game Jersey and Maroon Socks (players must purchase). If you don’t have socks yet, not a problem…you can get them next week.
Water Bottles/Jugs – Please be sure to have your son’s name on water bottles or jugs that are brought to practice. This is also important for ANY of their personal equipment and bags. We strongly consider purchasing water jugs instead of bottles as bottles are generally not large enough to hold an ample supply of fluid in this type of hot and humid climate early in the season. Also please mark your name on athletic tape and attach it to any of the equipment (helmet/shoulder pads). Seems to be plenty of “things” left and/or forgotten nightly at practice. Please make sure players bring home everything they brought to practice. We will hold them at the trailer for a while then discard.
Parking Lot Safety – Please continue to drive SLOW throughout the park and convey this to anyone in your family picking up your boys.
Trash – We put a significant amount of time and pride into our Parks to label them as the league and counties BEST. Please pick up any trash that you have prior to leaving. If a few people need to be reminded, please don’t hesitate to inform us and we can help there as well. Also, please exercise the clean-up rule at all of our opponents sites as well. THANK YOU!
Comet Wear: You will be able to order Comet wear many times this season. We have plenty of gear from last season and some new items to show for special ordering. We hope to have a complete listing and display on the website or handouts very soon.
PEP RALLY 2011: This is our annual kick-off party for Parents, Family, Friends and “PLAYERS”. Everyone can get together prior to the season opener…and enjoy a day of music, food, drinks, fun, games, football contests, and laughter. A great opportunity to meet the coaches and other Comet parents! Don’t miss this awesome day! See you there right after pictures!
Sponsor Forms – Please see a coach if you need a sponsor form or download one from the website. (www.statelinecometsfootball.com) We cannot have enough sponsors! A few coaches and parents have already done a great job helping out thus far!!! Thank you!!
Birth Certificates/Misc forms – If we are missing forms such as birth certificates and other misc forms, we’ll need to get these before the season begins. We have already contacted each person directly regarding the specific forms that are missing, so we’re hoping you can complete this request. Each parent should have submitted 4 forms and a copy of the birth certificate (unless you are a returning player, then your birth cert s/b on file). Also, if you have not given $5 to the team mom from your team please also follow up with them tomorrow. Thanks again!
E-Mail – If you have email and check it regularly, please provide us with your address, if you’d like updates emailed to you.
Phone Messages – We’re hoping everyone is receiving our “group phone messages” during adverse weather. We sent one out earlier this week. If you did not receive it, please let us know. We also post them on the website in case they are difficult to hear.
Any Other Issues? – Please feel free to call, e-mail, or discuss any issues directly with any of the Head coaches not addressed in our communication.
Websites – The following websites should be used for gathering information. There are plenty of updates posted regularly along with updated information regarding practices, games, events, announcements…etc..
www.statelinecometsfootball.com = this website is used directly for the Comets Football Program. It contains mostly Comet information with links to other sites. www.illiniyouthfootball.com = this website is the “league” website that the Comets Football program participates in on Saturday and Sunday. It contains rules, standings, schedules, and maps.

07.25.2011
Full Pads
If your son has had at least three practices without pads, tonight is the first night of full pads. If you have any doubt, come in pads and your son can always remove his shoulder pads and not hit if he does not have the required three non-padded practices.
Please fully check your sons gear at home and report any issues to your coach that you feel are important and we will review and correct if necessary.
ATTN PARENTS
- Helmets were handed out last Thur 7/21 to all that were in attendance.
- Some players were given Comet owned helmets that were re-certified for the 2011 season
- Some players were given their own helmets that were re-certified for the 2011 season
- Some players were given a Comet helmet to “use” until their own helmet comes back from re-certification in the next few weeks
- Some players had a few issues with their own helmets (Lining/facemask) not being returned from re-certification exactly the same. See your coach and we will correct all of these issues.
- Newer players…helmets are a very important piece of equipment, and sometimes takes a little “getting used to wearing” for your first time in football and/or even need to be broken in. Please try it for a practice and report issues if you feel they are really bothering you.
- If your player has a lot of hair, it should be soaking wet to be fit properly. NOT dry.
- Colored Mouth pieces MUST be attached to the helmet and NOT chewed up at all times. No exceptions.
07.20.2011
Practice and Equipment:
Due to the heat, we will not have a padded practice until Monday. The risk is too great with a 110+ degree heat index.
Helmets and misc. equip will be handed out on Thursday during practice.
Please remember, they will need a chin strap and a mouth guard that attaches to their helmet.
07.10.2011
Comet Parents/Players: Welcome! Just a quick update to get you some info...
Late Registration – Registration will conclude on 7/18/11 and will include late fees. Jerseys have been ordered for all the 2011 registered players with their names, numbers, and jersey size. They are due to arrive near Picture Day. Late registered players’ jerseys will be consolidated into one order and purchased locally if possible. If not we will have to use remaining past jerseys for those players and purchase a generic maroon pant. This is a difficult situation for us if presented, but we will do our best.
Practices - The first week of practice is scheduled for July 18th 2011. It will be at 5:30 PM until 7:45 PM at Thelen Park. The first week will be from Mon-Thur. Practices will then continue minimally every Monday through Thursday every week at the same times, until the first regular season game. After that they will be from Tuesday thru Thursday until the end of the 2011 season. Some coaches may have “additional” practices (beyond the normal days) based on each teams specific needs. The opening practice on 7/18 will also include a mandatory parent meeting to be held off-site at a place TBD yet from 6 PM until 700. The meeting will include a review of the Comets program, equip instructions, coach’s expectations and philosophy, and questions and answers. One parent from each family is required to attend. Items needed for the players during the first week of practice will include water jug, shorts, t-shirts, helmet, a “non-removable” colored mouth guard, a “cup style” padded chin strap, practice socks (can use any colors for practice until game day), and football cleats. Opening practice week is considered our “conditioning” week. No additional pads will be needed during this week. Each player is required to attend a minimum of three conditioning practices PRIOR to any contact. It would also be very beneficial to have the players begin to run or condition on their own if they have not done so yet.
Games – Games will begin on the fourth weekend after opening practice which falls during the weekend of August 13th for all teams.
Absent – If your son cannot make practice the opening week, please contact a coach ASAP so we can make other arrangements.
Equipment – Equipment was handed out on ALL registrations held thus far. You can also get any missing equipment, or adjustments to your current equipment AFTER practice during the first week. Again, the only thing you will probably need to purchase at this point is athletic supporter, cup (optional), colored attachable mouth guard, and chin strap. Also maroon socks for games which the organization is reviewing currently.
Team Pictures – TBD – Currently looking at a date the first week of August perhaps on Saturday the 6th. This will be in Full Uniforms – Game Pants, Belt, Game Jersey and Maroon Socks (players must purchase).
Medical Tape – Each season we ask players/parents to bring 2 rolls of medical tape if possible to keep everyone taped up for each game/practice if needed. If you can assist in this area, please pass this along to any of the coaches.
Full Pads – Will begin the first practice with FULL PADS on July 26th or sooner for some teams. PLEASE REMEMBER: TO TRY ON EQUIP AT HOME SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR TO PRACTICE TO GET THE FEEL OF IT. MOUTH GUARDS MUST BE ATTACHED to the Helmet facemask. Practice pants and Practice Jerseys only for practice, not game equip. It’s a good idea to always wear a t-shirt underneath the shoulder pads. Sleeveless is also ok.
Comet Wear: You will be able to order Comet wear many times this season. We have plenty of gear from last season and some new items to show for special ordering. We hope to have a complete listing and display on the website or handouts by the first practice.
Kick-OFF Party 2011: This is our annual kick-off party for Parents, Family, Friends and “PLAYERS”. Everyone will get together prior to the season…and enjoy a night/day of music, food, drinks, fun, games, football contests, and laughter. A great opportunity to meet the coaches and other Comet parents! Don’t miss this awesome night! More details to follow from our organizer Coach Gibson.
Sponsor Forms – Please see a coach if you need a sponsor form or download one from the website. (www.statelinecometsfootball.com) We cannot have enough sponsors!
Birth Certificates/Misc forms – If we are missing forms such as birth certificates and other misc forms, we’ll need to get these before the season begins. We will contact each person directly regarding the specific forms that are missing. Each parent should have submitted 4 forms and a copy of the birth certificate (unless you are a returning player, then your birth cert s/b on file).
