Team Announcements

·         Practice All the hard work that the kids have put in over the last 4 weeks has been appreciated.  Now that school has started, we are going to drop our practices to the normal schedule of Tuesday thru Thursday.  It’s very hard to accomplish our coaching goals in 2 hours but we will try to finish as close to 7:30 as possible.  We may throw in a Monday night practice if we see it necessary.  The kids have been practicing hard and we have seen a lot of progress over the last few weeks.

·         Game Recap –We opened our IYFL season this last weekend with great success.    Here’s a recap of last weekend’s games:

o    Our TCYFL team had their first chance to hit someone not in a blue jersey on Saturday morning in a scrimmage in Buffalo Grove.  They did an excellent job.   Their season will begin the first weekend in September.  The team is starting to execute pretty good and should be ready for their opener.

o    Team 1 (Maroon) defeated the Marengo Indians 34-0.  The Comets were dominant on both sides of the ball.  Offensively, they were able to pound the ball up the middle with great blocking by the offensive line led by:  Carson Borowski, Chad Autschbach, Ethan Sheedlo, Reggie Banks and Ethan Peterson.  The Comets got on the board first when Matthew Vlasak went 14 yards around the right end on the third play of the game.  The extra point was good with a strong run by Jeromy Groves.  The next score came on a 18 yard reception by Marcus Duhah, thrown by Matthew Vlasak.  On the next possession, Grant Sutton ran for an 8 yard score for the 3rd touchdown of the game.  Grant also racked up 107 rushing yards for the game.  The other scoring came from Jake Holian and Connor Olsen with Sutton and Vlasak adding another touchdown each.  Defensively, the Comets recorded their first shutout of the season with strong play by Cameron Krepel as well as strong play by Jake Holian, Patrick Hastings, Kyle Sederstrom and Luke Stocker.  The highlight of the game came on an interception by Connor Olsen who ran it back for 15 yards right before halftime.  The special teams also recovered a fumble on a kick off which setup a touchdown drive.

o    Team 2 (Gold)  defeated St. Mary’s 25-0.  Jake Tiso led the running backs with 98 yards on 3 carries and quarterback Ryan Beatty passed for 104 yards with touchdowns.  One was thrown to Jordan Hahn (65 yards) and the other was thrown to Brad Boelkow (39 yards).  Kory Klicker defended 3 passes while Tiso and Tristan Schmoldt had great open field blocks on Jordon Hahns touchdown run.  A great effort was put in by all the boys, especially first year player Thomas Kempf.  Nick Hogan had a great game on defense helping preserve the shutout.   There was great upfront blocking on the line by Willie Zaremba, Alben Rymarz, Jordon Hilton, Chris Wolf, Kyle Kirby and Eric Bock. Kory Klicker defended 3 passes. Jake Tiso and Tristan Schmoldt had great open field blocks on Jordon Hahns TD.

o    The Sunday Team completed the weekend Middleweight sweep with a 18-6 victory over Lake Geneva.   Tyler “Clay” Aitken scored 2 touchdowns, Michael Hrdlicka scored one and provided key blocks for Aitken’s long runs.  Danny Rygiel completed back to back passes to Patrick Kuklinski and Aitken for nice gains.  The offensive line of Brendon Pietchman, Matt Bonogofsky, Connor Robinson, Joe Letizia and Josh Williams.  While the defense gave up a few big plays, they kept the Badgers out of the end zone until late in the 4th quarter.  Coverage on pass plays by Sam Kaufman, Nick Pittser, Luke Brinkman and Kuklinski were excellent, with Brinkman and Hrdlicka breaking up 2 potentia l big plays.  Williams earned the “Video of The Week” with a big hit on a badger running back forcing and recovering a fumble.  Sacks and hits in the backfield were also recorded by Matthew Herre, Rygiel, Aitken and Kaufman.    The boys did a great job and a special thanks to our Saturday/Sunday players: Brad Boelkow, Jacob Holian, Nick Hogan, Kory Klicker and Chad Autschbach as they contributed to the win as well.

·         Game Recap 2 – Parents, please understand that I make every attempt to highlight everyone in the recaps.  I try to be as fair as possible, but I am human and I might inadvertently miss a player.  Please do not take offense to that.

·         This Week’s Schedule:

o    TCYFL – Home (NMS) Vs. Barrington – 4:30

o    Saturday Team 1 (Maroon) – At St. Ed’s - 12:00

o    Saturday Team 2 (Gold) – Home (NMS) Vs. Hampshire – 12:00

o    Sunday Team – Plays Sunday AT Johnsburg – 1:30

·        Richmond Days – IMPORTANT:  Please remember that this weekend is Richmond Days and it will have an impact on getting to NMS on Saturday.  Route 31 will be closed  from 9:45 to 10:30 (est).  This will have an impact on traffic so plan accordingly to get to the field on time.

·         Absent/Injury Reminder– Please remember that if a player cannot make practice, please contact a coach (call or email). If you feel they have an injury that needs our attention, please let us know. If they cannot perform at practice due to an injury, we will at least try to keep them involved in watching and learning the plays. Any players missing time during preseason will somehow have to make up the lost time thru extra effort and/or studying plays. We certainly understand everyone has various obligations, and we do our best to work within a fair manner to all. Missing practices during the season generally equates to game time missed.

·         Sponsor Forms – Please see me if you need a sponsor form or download one from the website. (www.statelinecometsfootball.com) We cannot have enough sponsors! Please strongly consider your company to be a sponsor of the Comets!

·         Any Other Issues? Please feel free to discuss any issues directly with me or the other coaches. Thanks for all the positive feedback thus far.

·         E-Mail – If you have email and check it regularly, please provide me with your address, if you’d like updates emailed to you.

·         Websites – The following three websites should be used for gathering information,

o    www.statelinecometsfootball.com = this website is used directly for the Comets Football Program. It contains mostly Comet information with links to other sites.  I personally update this website and keep it as current as possible.  All information that you need is on this site.

o    www.illiniyouthfootball.com - This website is the IYFL “league” website that the Comets Football program participates in on Saturday and Sunday. It contains rules, standings, schedules, and maps.

o    www.tcyfl.net  = this website is the league website that the Saturday Comets Heavyweight team, and one Middleweight and Lightweight team participate in. It contains rules, standings, schedules, and maps.

Upcoming Events - Aug 29th – “Comet Night” at the RBCHS Home Opener! It’s the Rockets opening game, and we can all be there cheering them on to another successful year after we are introduced on the field prior to the Varsity game!

On behalf of all the Coaches for the Stateline Comet Middleweights, thank you for your support.  I am personally having a great year with this team.
