Practice
–
We now have 6+ weeks of practice under our belts. Progress is
still coming slowly, but we continually move forward. The
players continue to work hard and should continually be proud of
their progress to date. We still continue to find where week
one’s material is forgotten, so we constantly review what we’ve
covered in the past, and try to keep refreshing the players with
past material. Practice attendance is better since the start of
season, but still below average. Out of 864 available practices
(total per player), we’ve had 169 absences. So an average of
about 20% of the time we have been short players with two small
teams. Regardless, we will continue to do the best we can with
those that are present. If any players need rides to or from
practice, please contact a coach and we’ll be glad to try and
help. Until further notice we will have practice every Monday
except Labor Day. We will drop Friday practices effective this
week.
·
Games –
The TCYFL schedule is still being worked on. Week one is now
posted on the TCYFL website as the “official” season begins this
week. The TCYFL team plays at Antioch Upper Grade School at noon
on Saturday. Plan to arrive at 10:30 AM. The Sunday team will be
playing Saturday Night at RBCHS at 7 PM. All players should plan
to be there at 530 PM. The TCYFL team has played two scrimmage
games to date, and the Sunday team two season games. Areas that
need attention from both teams are defensive coverage’s and
pursuit assignments. On offense, blocking assignments and ball
carrier routes followed correctly. We’ve really only released
about ten plays to date so we haven’t over whelmed the players
in volume. Ball handling and false starts have also been well
below average thus far on both teams and have really dampened
many offensive drives. Hopefully we can improve in those areas
soon, which should continue to compliment the many other areas
that are still developing in a positive manner.
·
Absent/Injury –
If your son cannot make a practice, please contact a coach at
once. I have received some messages for players missing
practices, and some others I have not. If you feel they have an
injury that needs our attention, please let us know. If they
cannot perform at practice due to an injury, we will at least
try to keep them involved in watching and learning the plays.
Any players missing time will somehow have to make up the lost
time thru extra effort and/or studying plays. We certainly
understand everyone has various obligations, and we do our best
to work within a fair manner to all. Missing practices during
the season generally equates to game time missed. One day
missed, one quarter missed. Not that school has begun, players
that are not performing well in school can also be dismissed
from practices/games based on their parents feedback until they
are brought back within acceptable grade ranges. Players missing
zero practices thru the season receive the prestigious
IRON MAN awards at our year end banquet. We currently have 6
kids out of 32 in this running.

Any Other Issues?
–
Please feel free to discuss any issues directly with me or the
other coaches. Thanks for all the positive feedback thus far.
Anyone interested in bringing treats/drinks for the players
during or after practices/games that is welcome also!
·
Safety & Housekeeping –
Please make sure you continue to drive in and out of the park
slowly. Also make sure your players exit the right side of the
vehicle and go directly onto the practice field. All Players and
Parents please make sure to pick up any trash on the ground at
every game and practice. We are all very proud of our Park and
want to make sure it’s kept looking at its finest!
·
E-Mail
– If you have email and check it regularly, please provide me
with your address, if you’d like updates emailed to you.
·
Communication
– As stated in the Parent meeting, you will continue to receive
updates from us via letters, e-mail, website, and meetings.
Please keep open communications with all coaches. At any time
you feel you’d like to address something with a coach, please
contact them after practice when they are home, or ask them if
you can arrange a mtg when they have a moment to discuss a
situation with you. Please do not take matters upon yourself to
correct a player, coach or official at any game. Let’s respect
each other, and all those around us and handle all situations
with respect and dignity as we are all asked to do in the
Player, Parent, and Coaches CODE OF ETHICS that we all signed
prior to the 2008 season. If you feel someone else is out of
line at a game or practice within our organization, please
notify a coach so we can address immediately. Thank you!

Upcoming Events -
Aug 29th – “Comet Night” at the RBCHS Home Opener! It’s the
Rockets opening game, and we can all be there cheering them on
to another successful year after we are introduced on the field
prior to the Varsity game! Please plan to attend the whole JV &
Varsity game and wear your jersey! Players should also wear
their jerseys to school on Fridays!
Thank you
again for enrolling your son in the Stateline Comets Football
program. All the coaches are committed to
instilling in the boys the fundamentals of youth tackle
football. We will continue to stress teamwork,
sportsmanship, fair-play, respect for the game, and respect for
each other. Regardless of how this season goes, we are all
winners if the players believe in each other and take care of
their teammates. Most importantly, we will do our best to ensure
they have fun playing this great game and want to continue
playing next season.
On behalf of all the Coaches for the Stateline Comet
Heavyweights, thank you for your support in what we feel will be
another absolutely outstanding year.
